Movie:
Hyderabad Blues 2 (2004)
|
Director
: Nagesh Kukunoor
About
the Story:
The character's confession stands out in a film and
a scenario where no one is ever alone, or given the
chance to be lonely. Swarming with characters and teeming
with remarks that replicate the rhythms of the educated
middleclass, HB2 is the most likeable multiplex film
in ages. The
hybridised Hindi-Telugu-English dialogues, which were
undoubtedly the USP of "Hyderabad Blues",
are the laugh-line in this charming tale of heartbreak
and laughter in the city of the Charminar.

It
is not as if Varun Naidu (Nagesh) has changed much. He remains
the baffled America-returned still wondering at the ways and
attitudes of the middle class in a city like Hyderabad. He
continues to share jokes and camaraderie with his friends
Sanjeev (Vikram Inaamdar) and gang.
What
has changed is that Varun is now a desi with a successful
call centre doing very well for himself married to the fiery
Ashwini who is also in the process of setting up her own clinic.

Review: Plot Outline: What
made the former special was it's originality, spontaneity
and raw energy that appealed to almost everyone - mostly
Indian techies like me in the US who could relate to lots
of it! The sequel on the other hand just prods on, quite
aimlessly for the most part, and never really builds the
pace to keep your engrossed or care for the characters on
screen! However, there are moments that are genuinely funny
- mostly involving Nagesh's government employed buddy Sanjeev
and his wife Seema - I am surprised I have not seen these
2 in more mainstream movies. Production quality though is
below average and so is the acting; with Nagesh's success
with more superior work like "Teen Deewarein",
I was surprised with the "home movie" feel this
film had.

Hindu Review: IF YOU were waiting with bated breath
for the sequel to "Hyderabad Blues" by Nagesh
Kukunoor, well its not quite in the same breath or freshness
as the first part...

Hyderabad Blues would have done fine without a sequel
