Asian talent honoured
Desi
News magazine recognizes 15 diverse achievers Dr. Abhijit
Guha is one of 15 recipients of the first Desi News-Grant's
Community Achievers Awards Gala, which honours the best in
Canada's South Asian community.
"We have the rocket scientist and the artist, the dancer
and the doctor, the author and the activist we will honour,"
said G.A. Easwar, publisher of Desi News, Canada's premier
South Asian magazine. "The event will showcase the finest
talents the South Asian community has contributed to the Canadian
mosaic."
Guha,
co-director of the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Centre
at the Hospital for Sick Children, is also the winner of the
gold medal in surgery from the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons, Canada. He is also the president of the Society
of Neuro-Oncology, winner of the Farber Award in Neuro-Oncology
and recipient of the Clinical Scientist Award.
Guha's
research is changing the way malignant brain tumours are treated
and he is passionate about taking modern medicine to those
who have limited access to it, Easwar said.
